Digimon World Dusk (2007)

Completed: n/a, probably about halfway in

Mechanically this is almost identical to World DS, except this one is actually wayyyy better and more polished. It fixes almost every issue I had with World DS... except for the maps, which are still atrocious. It is what it is, I guess.

If you're going to play this yourself I honestly recommend Dawn for a better experience, as the initial map for Dusk is a fucking sewer puzzle maze, and it SUCKS. Dawn has a completely different initial map that isn't the fucking shitty ass sewer. Seriously, skip it, your life will be better for it.

Anyway, since I actually beat this already as a kid and it has some of my fav mons available, I decided to do something different for my replay and I decided to get a bit cheeky, and using the power of fucking around with ROMs and cheats on my 3DS + trading with my original cartridge on my DS Lite, I just gave myself Lucemon FM from the start of the game lmao. My personal trade-off for this was that I would not use any other Digimon until it became not viable/possible to continue like that, and it was actually pretty fun and it was nice solo adventuring with him... your Digimon actually follow you around on the map, so it was pretty nice ='w'=

I actually have not yet completed my replay yet, I got stuck on another shitty swamp level (somehow worse than Packet Swamp) that sadly did not have a GameFAQs map available, so I got pissed off and gave up after spending like 2 hours wandering in circles. I will finish this... eventually.

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition (2019)

Completed: October

I became aware of Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth once it hit Steam, and I received it as a random Steam gift from an old Twitter mutual of mine back in 2020 (thanks Viva!!). I played it for a few hours, made a rough mental plan of what mons I wanted, started grinding, and then as with every game I played, I stopped playing it.

Digimon World DS (2006)

Completed: September

I was obsessed with this game as a kid. As an adult, it fuckin sucks.

The maps are atrocious, the writing is terrible (not that I expected much from a kid's game in the first place), and the selection of Digimon available is just... weird and so limited. It also features the Savers mons on the title screen but literally none of them have their full evo lines, they cut off at Perfect level??

I was only able to make it through this nightmare thanks to the continued existence of GameFAQs, of which I am grateful to still exist. The only reason I was able to make it through the game was thanks to this beautiful piece of 2006 history by catprog:

Packet Swamp map v1.1 by Catprog

So I am immortalising it here 20 years later in case I ever need it again and GameFAQs ceases to exist. FUCK THE PACKET SWAMP DUDE. I beat this game when I was a kid and I have no goddamned idea how.

I actually cleared this in about 10 hours straight? I somehow got reeeeally sucked into this game on a long weekend that I had off one day, so I just stayed up all night playing until I couldn't anymore. Admittedly I did end up using cheats to boost EXP and shit, but it was for the best bc I just don't have time for games like I used to.

Digimon X-Evolution

Completed: September 22

It's fine, it was kinda all over the place but I wasn't bored. The CGI is kinda jank and ugly, but does work for the "digital world" they're going for, especially at the end. If anything, I think it felt too fast and there wasn't really any time spent on developing the plot coherently.

The main reason I watched this was bc this was a movie I reeeeally wanted to watch back in the 2000s as Dorumon is my favourite Digimon, but my 9 year old self didn't know how to find and download movies online lmao. And I just kinda remembered that it existed??

Death-X-Dorugoramon in the movie

Also, the Death-X designs are AWESOME. I loved these as kid and I still love them now.

MADK (2017)

Completed: August 28

If ya know, ya know.

Fucked up and weird, but in a really good way; I love Makoto's descent into an absolute lunatic as the manga goes on. I also really like J, he's such a bitch and I think his chracter is really interesting -- a top tier demon for sure.

Shuumatsu Train Doko e Iku? (2024)

Completed: June 24

Fun surreal comedy in a bizarre post-apocalyptic world.

I don't even remember why I started watching this (possibly just bc it featured a train...), but it was actually a really good watch and I enjoyed it a ton.

Kuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen (2024)

Completed: June 23

I never thought we'd see the day that there's a new Kuroshitsuji anime. I enjoyed this, though I don't remember caring for the school arc at all -- I just look forward to the Emerald Witch arc coming next.

Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai (2024)

Completed: n/a, last ep watched 19 (1 episode left)

It was a fine anime about a doujin circle that I thought was neat.

Kyou wa Kanojo ga Inai kara (2021)

Completed: n/a, ongoing

AKA the cheating yuri. Everyone is super toxic, and considering how much yuri is boring fluff this alone makes it stand out lmao. Everyone here is so, so terrible.

I love this, it's a guilty pleasure.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part I: Beginnings (2012)

Completed: April 23

Out of nowhere I got a hankering to rewatch Madoka, and for the first time in my life I appreciated a recap movie.

Right after I also watched the second film:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part II: Eternal (2012)

Completed: April 23

HOMURA MY BELOVED

I think Eternal has some really great and touching scenes, and I love the pure, uninterrupted dedication to Homura's story here.

It's kinda crazy that they managed to turn 4 episodes into 2 hours, but it works and surprisingly doesn't drag on at all.

Still have yet to rewatch Rebellion...

Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete (2024)

Completed: n/a, last ep watched April 9 (2 episodes left)

I read the manga yeeears ago, so it's surreal as hell to see an anime for it. Very, very ero, but very fun regardless.

My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness (2016)

Completed: February 17

Tengoku Daimakyou (2023)

Completed: February 16

HOLY SHIT WATCH THIS ANIME.

Super engaging and caught me off guard, I wasn't expecting it to be that good.

It's got good humour and my expectations were constantly being subverted within the story -- it was also really satisfying when there was a specific moment that made everything within the two storylines "click" and suddenly I understood what was going on with the two plotlines the story portays.

It does feature both physical and sexual violence, so consider yourself warned.

NHK ni Youkoso! (2006)

Completed: February 10

Misaki makes me :\

Stuff

Toumei na Usui Mizuiro ni (2017)

Completed: February 9

Kitanai Kimi ga Ichiban Kawaii (2019)

Completed: February 8

Yuri manga about 2 girls in a very special relationship, where their main thing is that they meet up in secret after classes end to partake in weird, often grotesque fetishes... in school. Goes about as well as you might expect.

These two are toxic as hell and I'm all for it. Is this even a real romance...?

It starts off a LOT differently than it ends, with a lot of the "shocking" stuff being dropped in favour of just fucked up drama, but it's super unique and engaging as far as "yuri" goes in this regard.

Love Live! Superstar!! (2021)

Completed: January 24

Probably the strongest LL anime I've watched, though it feels like it loses its direction and drama once they get their fifth and final member -- it's like none of the prior conflicts ever even happened.

Love Live! Superstar!! 2nd Season (2022)

Completed: January 26

Shiki and Mei <3

For whatever reason, this season didn't really hold my interest that well. The new girls are slightly more interesting/qUiRkY, but again I feel like it lacked meaningful or impactful conflict or drama, especially with the ending -- it felt like all the buildup over 2-3 episodes was for absolutely nothing. :\

Zombie Land Saga (2018)

Completed: January 14

Actually funny idol anime that has some good songs and good drama despite the satirical nature.

I also binged the sequel immediately after:

Zombie Land Saga: Revenge (2021)

More of a focus on drama over comedy for this season, but I welcome it. Still a good watch and better than the first imo. The ending though...??

Tokyo 7th Sisters: Bokura wa Aozora ni Naru (2021)

Completed: January 10

It's alright, nothing really happens though. Fun fanservice if you're familiar with t7s I suppose?
